There is always paperwork to be done. Granby has handwriting typical of an Aviator - educated by the Corps from the age of seven, there had always been more exciting things to do than practising making letters, especially once he'd started to show promise as a Mid. It's not that it's illegible, just that it's a bit of a scrawl and he does have a tendency to spread the words out more than they maybe need to be. Still, he's grateful of something to be doing, something to keep his mind occupied. He's been aware of being something of a scrub for the last week or so, but it really is impossible, unable to tell what way Laurence is going to go from one minute to the next.

Files? Are much easier to predict.

Granby glances up towards the clock. Not long until dinner, but time to finish what he's doing.

"That is not--" Laurence shifted position slightly, getting more comfortable as he did not know how long he might be in it. "It is not entirely reassuring, John."

Wisely, Laurence decided to hold his tongue for the moment, though he was certain that if pressed he could have thought of at least a few things in answer to that particular question. He did, however, not hesitate in returning the kiss.

And Laurence was equally content to stay where he was, kissing Granby, his hands running slowly over the planes and lines of the other man's body.

Laurence was not certain that he was meant to answer that question and so he remained largely silent instead, watching Granby's fingers trace just one of his many scars. That particular one was so old, so familiar that he seemed to have forgotten its existence entirely until the other man's touch.

Laurence looked up, puzzled, taken rather unwillingly out of his contented reverie by Granby's words and the light slap. "What?"

A moment's hesitation and then Laurence gave a small, tense shrug before carefully rolling onto his stomach. Once situated, he turned his head back as fully and comfortably as possible, looking curiously at Granby.

Laurence nodded, trusting Granby through the oddness of their current positions and the sudden rush of uncertainty he felt. The fact that Granby felt the need to preface his actions did, however, give him pause.

Granby's actions were perfectly acceptable for the time being and Laurence had to wonder just why he had said anything. In fact, it felt rather good, just as he had said and not odd at all.

At that Laurence did shift away a bit from Granby, despite his efforts to remain still. Nearly as soon as it happened he was ashamed, but it could not be helped. That had been odd.

Laurence shook his head. It had been a rather sudden, uneasy feeling and it did not seem like the sort of thing that would easily lend itself to concrete definition. "I do not know, John. But perhaps we should-- Perhaps we might take things a bit more slowly?"

Determined to preserve some dignity, Laurence rolled over and off of the bed with the minimum amount of assistance from Granby's offered hand. He did not know what the other man had in mind, but presumably it was to be slower, as he had said.

Laurence relaxed into the touch, fairly at ease, but still very much himself, blushing and just a bit uncertain. It was not by any means a bad sensation, this almost intense closeness with another human being, especially after his having gone for such a long span of time without it, indeed without even a pale reflection of it.
